Through the mist Through the mist I shall call for you Like a blind man upon his route You were always the one, behind the sun Through the mist I am calling for you Ma! Through the knocks and the backs on the way There has never not been light in my day You have given me food you have guided me good Through your love you have kept me awake Should the time come to pass away I'll be glad I'll look forward to my dying day For I will never be lost it's God's earth that I cross Through the mist I am calling for you Ma!

The Sad Tale Of Joe McCue Joe would sit up on the step His sadness hid he needed help Depression damped the sun that shone His fragile life would soon be gone Dowsed himself to free his heart And sacrificed himself to God Well Im full of woe for brother blue How one so young could fall so soon But he'd free now as Im telling true This sad tale of Joe McCue Nineteen years a work of art His face a beauty silent heart This stunning athlete ran the wind Stayed a virgin never sinned His sister Rosie, William too Saw his torment yes they knew But never dreamed the deed he'd do Their pained and tortured brother blue But he's free now as Im telling true This sad tale of Joe McCue One afternoon it got too much In adolesence lost his touch Walked a mile in pain and sorrow Opting there'd be no tomorrow Drank the petrol dowsed his corpse Lit the match of nature's force Another angel leaves this land Way on up to father's loving hand But he's free now as Im telling true This sad tale of Joe McCue

Happy Blues I got the happy blues, since that lady went away I got the happy blues, since that old lady went away She was making my life her That's all I've got to say Hawkin' and skwawkin' that's all we'd ever do Hawkin' and skwawkin' that's all we'd ever seem to do She was a mean eyed mama Come down on everything I'd do I got the happy blues, since that lady went away I got the happy blues, since that old lady went away She was making my life her That's all I've got to say
4.
Little Red Bottle A drunk is a man Who is stronger within Than many a tee total would have you believe A drunk is a man Who's nostalgically prone And that soldier to me is a good way to be Who needs faith when there's a bottle A bottle gives regular blues Let your mind escape into the bottle Then rattle until it brews In your subconscious sea there is no laughter And the hate swims like a shark Upon your beach nothing but nostalgia A little puppy who'd lost his bark In the little red bottle Is all I believe My brain it has dropped within The little red bottle Is responsible for so many blues But blues to some are gold

about

78’s

On the 26th June 2019
Martin and his rockbilly pals Jose Guillan (Lead Guitar) and John Caverner (Double Bass) got together to record some very rare 78’ pressings
Sound technician Lorna Fullerton provided her office in the arts centre on High Bridge Street along with her 1930’s laithe used for cutting the wax
The event was documented with photographs and also digital wav recordings

The original 78’s wax discs were sold privately but the WAV recordings made at the same time remained in Martin’s custody and publishing camp
Here they are for the fist time made available as downloads from Bandcamp
They are super rare and will only be available for a limited amount of time

Background on the players...

Jose Guillan and his oldest friend John Caverner have been at the top end of the Rockin scene since the age of 17, both North Shields boys they excelled on their instruments from an early age touring the world and also getting to play with most of their heroes from the 1950’s
They are what I would call ‘Doctors of Rockabilly’ complete masters in the vintage form (circa 55-59)
They know and can play most A & B sides released in that era, both hits and misses… it is staggering the knowledge and enthusiasm these boys possess
Very high level players

I have known and played with Joe & Johnny for many a year and consider them very close friends

It is a joy to give you good folks a glimpse of their breathtaking talent

Enjoy

Martin G Stephenson xx

Note: These songs were recorded on vintage 1930's equipment so remember when you listen to it, it is totally authentic of the era, so listen a little closer, headphones could be a good idea, the music won't be as loud as modern stereo recordings, but instead having the warmth, intimacy and character of the 1930's
Very rare and beautiful, particularly the song Martin wrote age 14 for the elder brother of his friend who committed suicide (Joe McCue) or the beautiful song he wrote for his darling mother Frances Anne Stephenson (Through The Mist...
Breathtakingly beautiful and heartfelt songs executed to the highest roots level
Or the rare take on The Little Red Bottle and the original and hilarious "Happy Blues"
Super rare
